The Warning

The first letter arrived on a Tuesday. I recognized my own handwriting immediately, though it looked older, more tired. 'Don't go to the meeting on Friday,' it read. I crumpled it up and threw it away. But then the second letter came, and the third. Each one more urgent than the last.
