Overview
Writers on WriteTheRest keep the copyright in their work, and we expect everyone to respect other people's. If you believe something posted here copies your work without permission, send us a notice as described below and we will deal with it promptly.
Where to send a notice
- Email: legal@write-the-rest.alexlougheed.dev (subject: “Copyright notice”)
- Post: Alex Lougheed (trading as WriteTheRest), available on request by emailing legal@write-the-rest.alexlougheed.dev
What your notice must include
- Your name, postal address, email and phone number.
- A description of the copyright work you say is infringed (a link or a copy is most helpful).
- The WriteTheRest link (URL) of each prompt, story or comment you want removed.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act for them.
- Your physical or electronic signature (a typed full name is fine).
Incomplete notices may delay our response. Knowingly false notices can make you liable for damages.
What happens next
If the notice is complete, we will remove or disable access to the content promptly and tell the person who posted it, including a copy of the notice (we may remove your personal contact details if you ask). Removed content may remain briefly in caches or backups.
Counter-notice
If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake (for example, it is your own work or you had permission), you can send a counter-notice to the same address containing:
- Your name, postal address, email and phone number.
- The content that was removed and where it appeared.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of your address (or, if outside the US, any judicial district in which WriteTheRest may be found) and will accept service from the person who sent the original notice.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
We will forward the counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they have started legal action, we may restore the content.
Repeat infringers
We close the accounts of people who repeatedly post infringing content. See our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
